Coaching Staff Head Coach: Mark Bernett Mark has been the Head Coach of the Bend Swim Club since 1984. In the past 23 years, Mark has grown the program from 30 swimmers to 140. The Bend Swim Club is year in and year out one of the top three programs in the state from top to bottom. Mark grew up in Portland, competing for the Mt. Park Aquatic Club and Multnomah Athletic Club, and graduated from Jesuit High school in 1977. Mark received his BA in biology from the University of Oregon in 1983, and stayed on at the U of O, where he served as an assistant coach for two years. While at Oregon, Mark had the opportunity to work with several swimmers who qualified for the NCAA D-1 Championships. As a swimmer at the University of Oregon, Mark competed primarily if the butterfly and individual medley events, qualifying for the US Nationals in the 100yd fly and 200 IM. During his tenure in Bend, Mark has been selected Oregon Swimming Inc. Coach of the Year six times. His athletes have been selected Oregon swimmer of the Year 6 times as well. He had swimmers compete at the Olympic Trials in 1992, 2000, 2004 & 2008, and at the US Nationals nearly every year since 1988. Mark has had athletes selected to the US National "B" Team, US National Junior Team and several National Select Camps. In 20 years in Bend, Mark has had 25 swimmers qualify for National level competition, with 15 of them having competed at the USA Senior Nationals. Mark has also served in the Oregon Swimming Inc. Board of Directors, as the Coaches Representative, Administrative Vice President, Senior swimming Chair, Technical Planning Chairman and Board of review. Mark likes to play golf and fish in his spare time. Mark and his girlfriend Susan have two dogs, Ottowa and Serena. Assistant Coach: Shane Bennett Assistant Coach: Kendra Trussell
